Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP)

Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP)

In March 2017, Canadian Natural purchased a 70% operated working interest in the AOSP, adjacent to the Horizon oil sands site North of Fort McMurray.  The AOSP project consists of two mine sites, one at Muskeg River and the other at Jackpine.  Combined, the two mines have a productive capacity of 280,000 bbl/d of dilbit, produced via use of a paraffinic froth treatment process.  Produced dilbit is then shipped via the Corridor pipeline to the 70% owned (Shell operated) Scotford upgrader, North of Edmonton.  The dilbit is then upgraded via LC Fining technology to SCO, which is sold in the Edmonton refining complex.  Concurrent with the Company’s acquisition of the AOSP assets, the Company also acquired a 70% interest in the Quest Carbon Capture & Storage facility near Scotford, further demonstrating the Company’s demonstration to environmental leadership.
